讲座题目：Husbands’ wages and married women’s labor supply in urban China

讲座简介：This study examines the impact of husbands’ wages on their wives’ labor force participation rates and hours worked in urban China from 1995 to 2018. We find that an increase in their husbands’ wages reduces the labor force participation rate for married women with similar education levels. Controlling for gender identity—in particular, an aversion to the wife earning higher than her husband—makes the income effect of husbands' wage increase stronger. We find that the labor supply effect of husbands’ wages is more significant for women of younger cohorts, with less education and with more children. The employed women’s hours worked are negatively correlated with their husbands’ wages, which is more significant for married women of older cohorts and with more children. This study helps us better understand the trend of the female labor supply in urban China and sheds light on the impact of gender identity, welfare inequalities across families, and the well-being of households facing economic shocks.

主讲人介绍：朱梦冰，经济学博士，斯坦福大学国际问题研究中心博士后，现任北京师范大学经济与工商管理学院副教授，北京师范大学中国收入分配研究院研究员。研究领域为劳动经济学和发展经济学，现阶段从事收入差距、社会保障政策的收入再分配效果和消费不平等等方面的研究。主持国家自科青年科学基金项目和北京市社科基金一般项目，目前已在《中国社会科学》、《管理世界》、《China Economic Review》、《经济学动态》等国内外高水平期刊发表多篇学术论文。
